Defining Work- Blue, white and in-between.

We live in a society in which we feel we must “work” hard, check enough boxes and accomplish a certain amount of activity before we can consider ourselves satisfied.  Moving from a place of productivity based on piece on physical production to work based on intellect and strategy from my observation lead to mental health issues.

The factory worker and the CEO hold vastly different measurements of production. Producing a certain number of accurate parts verses a job based on delegation and decision are night and day.    That said; I believe most humans with average brain functioning can most likely attain and succeed in any occupation. The difference is the type of work and social programming that has taken place throughout the person’s life.

Someone who went to college, maybe on to grad school may never work in an environment in which manual labor is required.  This individual is programmed to only understand that he or she was hired for their knowledge of a certain field and not to work as those who are laborers and technicians.  For the white collar worker it would seem a waist of their ability to contribute to the work of operating a machine, fixing a car or building something.  Of course the white collar worker is capable of such work it would become mentally awkward.  The blue collar worker also could perform the functions of their white collar counterparts if placed in such a role yet just as the white collar would find it awkward so would the blue collar worker who is now performing the duties of a corporate director.

The problem lies in the social engineering that has taken place.  A CEO who gets fired probably will not go apply as a construction worker even if the job gave him or her living wage.  Also the blue collar worker probably would not apply for the dismissed CEO’s positon as they may feel inadequate.  Are they inadequate? I doubt it, what I do believe is two types of programming which has shaped their life and contribution to society. who

There may be a real correlation between depression and persons who have placed themselves outside of their definition of work.  Some say that happiness is the end of all things.  A person may find themselves in a higher paying job or a job that does not meet their intellectual needs and find discouragement.  Both persons will never be able to perform enough “work” to be satisfied as both look at completion differently.  The blue collar worker working a white collar job may spend every waking moment of their lives in their new position trying to produce without slowing down.  Of course not everything can be accomplished in a day or a week.  Working in white collar fields involves working with humans who are all bringing a variety of complex issues.  This inability to feel accomplished could create severe depression.  The same with the white collar worker who is now in a factory; this worker is continually frustrated with the way the operation is conducted without the authority to change the operation.  The lack of operational freedom may bring about frustration leading to a lack of fulfillment.

Most people are in awe of why so many very successful people commit suicide especially among the entertainment industry.  These individuals do not answer to supervisors and many have come from a blue collar background.  They believe work involves production of something tangible.  They may never be able to create enough music, movies, art etc.  Drugs and alcohol are common as even though their bank accounts are filled, their hearts are empty.

Moving up and down the ladder between the blue collar and white can create a psychological shift which causes more harm than the money is worth.  That said transition is possible and through proper self-care and realization that both types of work are important to the contribution to society.

Companies could do more to train those being promoted into a different dynamic.  Those who find themselves in instant success should in my opinion see a therapist to work through the major life change that follows.  The same should be said of those who have been dismissed from white collar positions and are now working in the manual fields.

The Backyard Preacher # 182 (The Answer to Everything is, You Just Being You.)

Yes, Just be you!  We do not have to fight over everything if we are willing to reason together.  I use to get angry and outraged but have calmed down a lot after I realized that life is not that serious.  Have fun, be king, accept other people, don’t be a jerk and let love win!

The Backyard Preacher # 178 (WAR)

The human is born violent.  Murder is acceptable in society yet through what lenses do we view? Since Cain killed Able man has killed one another.  Yet statistically we live in the most peaceful time on the planet.  While we see more school shootings and stand in horror we do not think about the presidents who kill innocents everyday with drones.  What is the difference?  Lets explore war together!

WAR

Is Religion Dangerous?

Is religion dangerous? My answer is no; but also a resounding YES. First at the heart of all religious systems the intent is to journey from the profane to the divine. One would think this would be a wonderful human development of seeking a higher power for the good of humanity. The higher power may be on the outside such as a God or God’s, or the divine is finding ones higher self. Religions of the world vastly differ on how one takes this path.

The varying religious paths prescribed towards divinity shows the beauty of diverse cultures. Religion becomes a danger when one religion demands that they are correct and others are not. Secondly the adherents of the religion feels it is their duty to God to impose doctrine by force.

Two religions have been known to cause the greatest amount of danger to humanity. That is Christianity and Islam. People of these faiths have killed and suppressed nations. Subjected mass amount of anguish upon differing beliefs with laws suppressing the rights of non adherents.

Why, it has not always been this way? Yet even very early in Christianity’s history fights over correct doctrine took place. When Rome saw the opportunity to use Christianity as a way to help control and unite the empire the Roman Catholic church became the enforcer of God and king within Europe.

War was waged against Islam the fairly young religion that was sweeping the middle east by force. A fight that is still in place today. All of this stems because religions such as Christianity and Islam are absolute in their doctrines and pathways to God.

In our modern world religion is used in American politics such as the election of Donald Trump. Yet this is not new. Kings would often claim they ruled by divine right and who can argue with God?

My proposal for religion especially that of Christianity which I am apart of, is the elimination of dogma and doctrine. A true freedom of religion that I pray also on Islam. Let each person be his own pope. Let each person decide the best path within their chosen faith. Let each person develop a path to the divine based on their own understanding of their faith. A faith that all is permitted under love.

In my heart this is what Jesus taught.

The Opioid Crisis

States are pondering with the idea of charging drug dealers with murder if a buyer dies as a result of use. This is primarily focused around the opioid crisis. No one can deny that the United States has a drug problem. Opioids are a dangerous part of the problem as these drugs cause the most deaths. What should be noted is that a good percentage of opioid users started taking the drug because a doctor prescribed it for severe pain.

If you have ever been in extreme pain before and were given opioids then you can attest that they work wonders. The pain just goes away as you enter a state of bliss. Yet the bliss is short lived as it is reported you can become physically dependent on these wonderful pills in just 5 days. With the DEA becoming more active in monitoring a doctor’s prescription pad, many newly minted addicts are cut off. This in my opinion is not fair and leads to their death.

We see once good productive citizens become criminals in the eyes of the law because they are in pain and need to somehow maintain a functional life. They purchase unregulated often tainted opioids or move into using heroin increasing their chances of imprisonment or death. A wall at the border will not solve the problem; an internal examination and making the proper adjustments in treating patents in extreme pain will do more than any wall. Many states allow for the use of medical cannabis for pain yet most states are still stuck in the 1920’s. We have bars on every corner yet somehow being high on anything other than alcohol is immoral.

So what common sense approaches can the citizenry take to curb the opioid crisis without spending a dime? First we allow doctors to prescribe alternative pain relief by federally legalizing cannabis. Cannabis is a proven to reduce pain and the great thing is no one has ever died from it. Second we need to allow people who suffer from chronic pain to be on opioids long term. Doctors should be able to give medication that will allow the patient to have a functioning life even if it comes in the form of a pill. So many people turn to street drugs which are not regulated by the FDA leading to fatal overdose of people who just needed pain relief. Finally I want to say that life is hard and it sucks sometimes. I do not look down upon the drug user I look down upon those that lock people up and deny them maybe the only happiness they will ever have.

What is the difference between work in the past and work today?  If you had the opportunity to make a living doing what you love would you?  Do you live to work or work to live?

Church Without Borders

Is it possible to truly have a church without borders?  Borders; why are they built within every congregation who claims to know the will of God?  Borders separate would be people of like mind; they divide families and friends, and discourage asking the question of why the borders exist.  The borders are the man made doctrines and dogmas of the church.  What exactly did Jesus mean when he spoke of himself?  “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth.  I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.” (Matthew 10:34, NIV)  Did Jesus take delight in the fact that people would be divided because of him?  If you continue to read the text Jesus points out in verse 36 the very members of a household will become enemies.  The overall question is what kind of warning is this?  Is Jesus saying that border walls are good and that his teachings will cause divisions?  Or, does Jesus foresee the outcome of human error and our ability to create division over teachings as we all try to be right?  It is an undeniable fact that we have seen the madness of the Christian faith over the last 2 thousand years, the division it has caused and the lives destroyed.  Maybe, just maybe Jesus desired not to cause division, rather an unavoidable human consequence.

What then can the church look like to fix our divisive nature?  Thankfully I may have the answer.  We must remove all doctrines and dogma except for two teachings; first, Christ as the incarnate son of God who lived, died, and was resurrected. Second the teaching of the Apostle Paul found in 1 Corinthians 13, which gives us the definition of love.  Every other teaching then must be able to pass the love test.  All then is permitted and all is forbidden. Absolutely everyone is accepted in God’s eternal love.  Think of all of the social issues of today which divide the church.  These social issues would be no more as we would not recognize them as issues within our body of Christ.  All is truth, and all is lie.  What remains is God’s eternal love.  With humility and introspection we live out our lives in peace.  We accept all people.  There would not be a need to argue over theological interpretation for each person has the ability to interpret for themselves and then give this same authority to their fellows in respect of their own knowledge.  The leaders among us will be those who serve the most as appointed leadership will not be beneficial.  We will lead one another in humility as we are all ordained priest of God.  We will gather to break bread, and our fellowship will be without major ritual that causes some to place someone on a higher level than another. Worship through song, prayer, and conversation.

Humanity cannot find God because humanity is looking up instead of looking within and around.  Humanity as a whole is the very essence of God.  A church cannot be divided.  A church divided is not a church.  A body cut in half is not able to function and is dead.  The body of Christ is resurrected and full of life; this body is you.  As you know we live in very divisive times, my heart is drawn as a Christian to present Godly answers to the issues we face.  What if we stopped allowing issues to be issues and allowed ourselves to be happy?  Politics are ruining the church in America, social justice is ignored by the majority in favor of a theology lacking in love and morally bankrupt.  Many Christians seek signs and wonders, yet Jesus said you will not see any sign but that of Jonah.  The sign then that people need to see is you.  Be the resurrection, be the life to your fellows.  I believe we can have a church without borders if we just take ourselves out of the way.

You are not successful; you are just lucky.  Success obvious is about perspective yet speaking materialistically many people have similar skill sets of the most “successful” people on earth.  The difference is some just so happen to have all of the right events happen at the right time.  This luck goes back to the day you are born.

You are not successful, you are lucky.
